15 BMG candidates win KCCI elections

KARACHI, Sept 26: The elections for 15 seats (14 for member class and one town association) of managing committee of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry will not be held on Saturday following the withdrawal of nomination papers by six candidates.

Those who withdrew their nominations are Shaikh Farukh Salim, Masood ul Hassan, Naveed Gul, Kamran Riaz, Javed Arshad and Shaukat Rafi.

The elections for 15 managing committee seats had to be fought by 20 candidates. However, there would be no election on Saturday as there remain only 14 candidates after the withdrawal, an official at the KCCI said.

As a result, members of the Businessmen Group (BMG) Teli Group has been elected unopposed on 15 seats. Those who elected unopposed are: Siraj Kassam Teli, Sohail Mansoor, Mohammad Saeed Shafiq, Abdul Majid, Iftikhar Ahmed Shaikh, Aamir Abdullah Zaki, Dr Arshad Vohra, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imran Saeed Baghpatee, Maqbool Mangrani, Mansoor Ilyas, S. Javed Iqbal Magoo, Junaid Ismail Magda and Zia Ahmed. M. Yaqub Nagaria from Landhi Association has been elected unopposed on town association seat.

The elections of office-bearers for the post of president, vice-president and senior vice-president will, however, be held as per schedule on September 29, followed by annual general meeting on September 30 to approve the audit accounts of the KCCI for the year 2002-03, the KCCI official said.

Siraj Kassam Teli is being tipped as new president of the KCCI.
