KARACHI: Man shot at, injured by policemen in civvies

KARACHI, Sept 24: A man was shot at and wounded by four policemen in civvies in what police termed an ‘encounter’ in the Preedy police limits on Wednesday.

The man, identified as Aman Shah alias Sher Khan, was seriously wounded and shifted to a hospital.

Sources said that Sher Khan, who came from Peshawar, stayed with his friend Ayub Nasir. Khan had an unlicensed TT pistol and Nasir had his links with police. Nasir took him to a place in the Preedy police limits and informed SI Farooq Satti, who reached their along with ASIs Faiz and Shakil and a constable in civvies.

They attempted to nab Sher Khan who was under the impression that they were robbers. Khan tried to break free from the clutches of the four armed men using kicks and blows and, in doing so, losing his pistol on the ground.

The policemen opened fire at Khan. Three bullets hit Khan and one each had hit two different shops. The people present there escaped unhurt.

However, police said that a police party raided on information and tried to nab an alleged robber, which ensued an ‘encounter’. Khan is struggling for his life at a hospital.

ROBBED, WOUNDED: a man was deprived of Rs200,000 and shot at and wounded when he put up resistance to bandits in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The Mubina Town police said that Mohammad Sabir, 60, had drawn Rs200,000 from a bank branch in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. He was on his way home when some bandits intercepted and robbed him at gunpoint. As Sabir resisted they shot him and fled, leaving him in a pool of blood. He was shifted to a hospital.

KILLED: A man killed his wife on suspicion of infidelity at his house in Shershah on Wednesday.

Police said Zainul Abideen, 24, married Rukhsana, 19, some two months back and started living in a house on Mohammadi Road in Shershah. Zain, a Bengali speaking fisherman, had arguments with his wife as he suspected her of having relations with strangers. He got provoked on Wednesday, strangled Rukhsana and fled.

The neighbours told police about the incident and the body was shifted to a hospital for autopsy. Police located Zain at the city railway station where he was trying to leave the city. Police arrested him and put him behind bars.

ACCIDENTS: Two people died in different road traffic accidents on Wednesday at separate places.

Police said the road was slippery in the morning owing to drizzle near Khatoon-i-Pakistan College. Ashraf’s motorcycle (KAA-2551) skidded and he fell on the road. Gulfam, who was on a scooter along with his wife Zareena and son Waqas, hit Ashraf’s motorcycle and they all fell on the road.

A truck (QAD-4099) from behind hit all those lying on the road. As a result all of them were injured and taken to a hospital. Gulfam, 40, succumbed to injuries. Police impounded the truck. Its driver escaped.

In a hit-and-run accident an unidentified man was crushed to death on the National Highway near Steel Town.

Police said his body was found lying along the road and was sent to a hospital for autopsy. They said the man seemed to have been hit badly by some vehicle. The body was later kept at the Edhi morgue for identification.

ELECTROCUTED: A man died after a high-tension electricity wire snapped near Safoora Chowk in the Sachal police limits.

Police said that a labourer, Mohammad Shah, aged 28, was asleep on a heap of husk, when the high-tension wire snapped and the husk caught fire. Shah ran for his life but got trapped in the wire and died on the spot. The body was shifted to a hospital for autopsy.
