Lawmakers exchange hot words

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: A ruling party woman senator exchanged harsh words with a protesting MNA of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) at the main entrance of the Parliament House here on Tuesday.

The two women parliamentarians were about to indulge in a physical fight when senior PPP members intervened and avoided what could be an ugly scene outside the National Assembly building in front of a large number of journalists and photographers, covering the sit-in of the opposition members.

The incident took place when PML-Q Senator Gulshan Saeed approached the parliament house in her chauffeur-driven car with few members of her family, where PPP women MNAs, led by Naheed Khan, had blocked the entrance. The ruling party senator asked Naheed Khan to let the car in, otherwise she would ask her driver to run her over. But an adamant Naheed refused to get out of the way and challenged her to ask the driver to run her over.

Senator Gulshan Saeed said, “If you people don’t recognize the Legal Framework Order (LFO) then why don’t you tender your resignations. You come here only to get allowances and salaries and do nothing.” Naheed Khan said, “Why should we resign.”

The PPP MNA asked the PML-Q senator to go and “polish the shoes of Gen Musharraf”. The senator said she knew that the PPP members had been polishing the shoes of Benazir Bhutto. Ms Naheed said but they did not polish shoes of dictators like the ruling party members.

They were about to indulge in a physical fight when PPP MNA Syed Khursheed Shah intervened and asked Naheed Khan to let the senator’s car in, but she refused.

The situation was controlled by Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, who pushed Naheed Khan back to let the senator’s car in. On this occasion, the other opposition women MNAs and party activists raised slogans against the military rule, the ruling party and the LFO.
