MUMBAI, Sept 22: India has resumed soyameal sales to Pakistan after a near three-year gap and is tapping markets in South Korea and Europe to more than double its exports during the year, industry officials said on Monday.
“We have already started sending some shipments to Pakistan from the old crop,” said Rajesh Agrawal, chairman of the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA). About 200,000 tons of soyameal are likely to be shipped to Pakistan from the new crop in 2003-04 (October-September) following industry efforts to revive business links with its western neighbour, he said.
“A business delegation is going to Pakistan and we are also requesting the government to open up the rail link to cut transportation costs,” said Ravi Sethi, a leading Indore-based soyameal trader.—Reuters
