KARACHI, Sept 20: An interesting card of eight races has been drawn for the 16th Day of the Karachi Summer Gymkhana races which will be held today (Sunday) at the local turf. The first race will begin at 1 p.m.

With more than two chance horses in almost every race the day’s programme should be absorbing and the race goers should witness close finish throughout the day.

In the opener Sonia, High Star, Pahelwan Choice, Sajan Black and Clever Cat stand fair chance provided they have the blessings of their connections. Pahelwan Choice and Sonia should renew their week old rivalry.

On handicap Sonia looks a sitter but the aged mare may find the young, Pahelwan Choice difficult to beat and defy the handicap. Clever Cat if backed by the stable can squeeze in for a place.

Grey Boy, Love Land, Knight Gambler and stable mates Deniro and Ceaser’s Palace are the chance horses in the second race.

Grey Boy on his last run behind Ever Shine should have close verdict over Love Land who should come out with improved run. Deniro who is cut above the rest but no recent form can upset the apple cart.

In the third race Knight Fighter, Savero, Auzy and Ever Shine are the speedy customers therefore should battle it out in the last furlong for supremacy. Savero’s last run behind Your Honour and Your Pleasure gets my vote unless Ever Shine once again succeeds in run away tactics.

In the fourth race, Ranjha, On Song, Your Pleasure and Join The Millennium are the form horses. Your Pleasure on his last run will be the public fancy but he will be meeting a thoroughbred Join The Millennium who had a good run last Sunday when he led the field till the bend and then apparently went wide with some suspect action of his rider, Mujahid Ali.

That run now should help him to come out with true colours.

Innuendo, a three-year-old, filly, from the stable of Ali Faisal Farooq was unlucky last Sunday when she was beaten in a close finish by Micky Mikado.

With that run in mind I think that she should show a clean pair of heels to her rivals. Saligna and Thousand Up should fight for less remunerative berths in the fifth race.

In the following race Snake Eyed, Robalto Carlos Fan, Fast and Furious and Sardar are the pick in the sixth race.

Fast And Furious will be meeting more seasoned, Sardar therefore may find it difficult to record his second successive win though his maiden triumph was quite impressive. Micky Mikado II should fight for lower berths with Robalto Carlos Fan and top weights Snake Eyed.

In the seventh race Khasul Khas, Lady’s Love, Defence Academy and Dur-e-Yemen are the chance horses. Khasul Khas has been heavily penalised by the handicapper who has been unkind which rules him out of contention.

Lady’s Love though is appearing after a long time should record her fourth straight win as she is a different class and has been tracking very well. Defence Academy should fight for lower berth with Dur-e-Yemen who is gaining form.

In the concluding event of the day, there are some well bred horses and belong to better class but I would restrict my choice to form horse, Al Aashia, Keen Winner and The Champion Strides.

The way Al Aashia won last Sunday over seven furlongs I would like her to make it two in a row. The Champion Strides may have the blessings of the stable as his stable mate, The Club Champion has perhaps some other goal in mind and is preparing for some big event.
