US commander lauds role of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Sept 20: Commander US and Allied forces in Afghanistan General John Vines has said that the government of Pakistan has been extraordinary cooperative, and “we work closely with their military.”

In an interview with a US radio channel (NPR), he said: “In some cases, we ask them to conduct operations to deny sanctuaries and they cooperated in that.”

In reply to a question, the US general said: “We do not chase Al Qaeda members into the Pakistan territory as Pakistan is a sovereign state.”

The operation of US forces were restricted to Afghan territory whereas operations inside Pakistan are conducted by Pakistan security forces, he added.—APP
