GUJRANWALA, Sept 20: The heirs of the proclaimed offender, who was allegedly tortured to death by police on Thursday, refused to accept his body from the DHQ hospital authorities after autopsy to mark their protest.
However, the police buried him with the help of the city tehsil council, here on Saturday.
According to reports, PO Muhammad Afzaal was being quizzed in the Aroop police custody for his alleged involvement in a murder case. During the course of interrogation, the police tortured him due to which he was admitted to a hospital where he died.
The deceased’s family demanded the police higher-ups that they should book the police officials, who tortured Afzaal. On their refusal, the family did not accept the body.
Iterating their demand for stern action against the policemen, the heirs threatened that they would continue their protest.
VEHICLES SEIZED: A Customs team claimed on Saturday to have confiscated three luxury vehicles at Wazirabad river bridge, which were being smuggled from the tribal area.
On receiving information, a team set up a picket at the Chenab from where it confiscated the vehicles.
A case has been registered against the smugglers, and investigation was under way.
