JACOBABAD, Sept 20: Hundreds of citizens took out a protest rally and observed a token hunger strike against the non- availability of clean potable water here on Saturday.
The protesters included activists of political parties, trade unions and Shehri Ittehad.
The procession marched on main roads of the town and some of its participants later observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club.
Shehri Ittehad president Mohammad Akram Abro, traders’ leader Ahmed Ali Brohi, JUI-F provincial leader Dr A. G. Ansari and PPP leader Mohammad Rafiq Weesar led the protest.
They said that millions of rupees were allocated for potable water but due to corruption and inefficiency of the officials concerned, the citizens were compelled to consume contaminated water.
PM: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali arrived here on Saturday and was received by Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar, provincial minister Manzoor Khan Panhwar, district Nazim Shabbir Bijarani and others.
After his arrival, he drove to Rojhan Jamali with the chief minister.
The prime minister will visit Jacobabad on Sunday and hold meetings with tribal chieftains of the area.
UNITY STRESSED: Religious scholar and MMA leader Allama Sabit Ali Jafri has urged the Muslims to unite and help the oppressed and victimized Muslims.
He was speaking at gathering here on Friday to celebrate the birth of Hazrat Ali.
