CAMBRIDGE, Sept 20: Former Federal Minister Abida Hussain has said that Pakistan’s parliament is held hostage to dictates of the army generals.

Speaking at the Harvard University’s South Asia panel on “Visions for the Future” Ms Hussain criticized the generals of the Pakistan Army and bureaucrats from the World Bank for destroying the social, economic and political fabric of the country.

Ms Hussain, who was former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s envoy to Washington, minced no words and asserted that the peace process between India and Pakistan was subverted in the “bunkers of Kargil.”

She observed that Al Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden proved to be President Musharraf’s “best friend,” because in its quest to dismantle Osama’s terror network with Gen Musharraf’s help the international community has had overlooked the fact that there is a “military government” in Pakistan.

Ms Hussain expressed hope that the derailed “peace process” in South Asia could be put back on track.

Ms Hussain, asked the Harvard University to establish a South Asia centre in the subcontinent in order to connect with the people who frame policies in the region.
