KARACHI: Warrants against doctor withdrawn

KARACHI, Sept 20: Justice Zia Pervez of the Sindh High Court on Saturday withdrew warrants of arrest against Dr Naushad Sheikh of the Civil Hospital Karachi as he appeared in the court in connection with a suit filed against Habib Public School, Karachi.

Plaintiff Ms Zaibunisa filed the suit for recovery of Rs3,080,000 as compensation under Fatal Accidents Act against the school and trustee of the Habib Educational Trust on account of negligence committed by the defendants causing the death of plaintiff’s son Mohammad Shahid, a student of Class-VIII in defendant’s school, who was found dead in a swimming pool of the school.

In response to bailable warrants issued against him on the last hearing, Dr Naushad appeared and stated that Dr. Liaquat who had conducted the autopsy was not presently posted at the hospital and had been transferred to another hospital.

However, as per record of the postmortem, it was handed to police surgeon after autopsy, along with relevant report, he said. Plaintiff’s counsel requested time to take steps for production of the said record.—PPI
