ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: The work on installation of high tension wires crossing over the Orchard Scheme in the capital has been suspended after pointing out of health hazards by a senator in the Upper House.
The assurance about suspension of work on installation of poles was held out here on Friday by the minister for water and power, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao.
The minister said though Wapda had already incurred Rs10 million on construction of ten foundations for these poles, it could even wind up the project, but then the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would have to bear the expenditure, the minister said while replying to an out of turn calling attention notice of Senator Shahzad Waseem.
The minister said in no way Wapda intended to create inconvenience for the residents of the capital and explained that the route for laying the high tension wires was provided by the Authority. Mr Sherpao said he would conduct an inquiry into the matter to solve the problem.
