KARACHI: Issue of power dues against govt depts taken up
KARACHI, Sept 17: The Sindh Irrigation and Power Department and Scarp would present their reports pertaining to electricity requirements and consumption in offices and residential colonies in a few days. The Irrigation department has been given seven days and the Scarp three days for the purpose.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting, chaired by provincial Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Qazi, held here on Wednesday to resolve the issue of electricity dues against government departments raised by the KESC and HESCO.
The meeting was attended by the MD of KESC, Brig Tariq Saddozai and Additional Chief Secretary, Mohammad Saleem Khan, besides other secretaries.
The meeting also issued order that the offices and colonies be connected with separate meters.
It decided that officials of Sindh government, with the help of law-enforcement agencies, would get illegal connections removed and take all possible steps to ensure fair consumption of electricity.
The meeting noted that an amount of about Rs179.6 million was outstanding against different department of the provincial government under the head of electricity. The power dues against city government, Karachi, are to the tune of Rs605 million and against the KWSB about Rs507 million.
Secretary Works and Services Ashfaq Ahmed Memon told the meeting that a delay of two months in releasing allocated amounts had caused default on power dues while there were some complications, arising out of devolution system, responsible for the situation.
