KARACHI, Sept 17: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that a scheme for doulization of 20-km-long road from UC Gabo Phat to Cape Town village at an estimated cost of Rs100 million is under consideration.

Construction of this road would help develop coastal areas of Hawkesbay and also solve the problem of access up to the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (Kanupp).

Mr Khan stated this while on a visit to Kanupp on Monday at the invitation of the plant’s chief.

The Nazim said that Kanupp was a national institution and that the city government held all such institutions of national importance in equal esteem. He said that the problems being confronted by Kanupp and supposed to be looked into by the city government would be resolved on preferential basis. Chief of Kanupp highlighted the problems, particularly relating to road construction and repairs. Town Nazim Zulfikar Yunus and the EDO (works) were present on the occasion.

Naimatullah Khan held out the assurance that all roads leading to Kanupp would be rebuild or repaired and pointed out that a road construction plan was under consideration with an aim of ultimate development of Hawkesbay’s coastal areas.

In this regard, he said, a joint meeting of Kanupp, city government and the concerned UC would be convened.

Mr Khan said that work on Gulbai Chowk was under way whereas the tender for the road between Grax, Mauripur, and a point near Kanupp Colony had been awarded. This two-way road, he added, would cost Rs22.5 million.

He asked the town Nazim and EDO to examine construction work on the road between 500-Quarters to Muachh Goth and submit to him a report thereof. The road connects Hawkesbay with Hub River Road as an alternative access to Mauripur Road and would facilitate people of Saeedabad, Baldia and other adjoining areas in reaching the recreational spot of Hawkesbay.

The Nazim also called for a special check on encroachments in the vicinity of Kanupp and steps for the removal of already existing encroachments.

He said that construction of a bypass near Kanupp to provide an access to Paradise Point would also be considered. The road to Paradise Point passes across the gate of Kanupp but it is not safe from security point of view, he added.

Twin-school status: The Government Pilot Girls Higher Secondary School, Nazimabad, is to be declared ‘twin-school’ to a quality institution of Lahore.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has given an approval to the declaration and said that it would become the first twin-school which would be sending its teachers and students to Lahore.

Speaking at the scholarship distribution ceremony at the school on Wednesday, he observed that the policy of nationalization pursued in 1972 had ruined education system. Since after taking over charge of the city, we have been paying due attention to education sector, he added.

He impressed upon teachers to promote ideology of Pakistan and said that each town had been asked to select 20 best schools which would be declare twin-school with educational institutions in Lahore.

The objective is to bring Lahore and Karachi closer to each other on ideological basis, he observed.
