PESHAWAR, Sept 15: Zakhakhel tribesmen of the Khyber Agency have resolved to abide by the government’s decision, pledging not cultivate poppy crop in next season.
Speaking at a joint press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, former federal minister Malik Waris Khan Afridi and Malik Nadir Shah Zakhakhel said that a unanimous decision in this regard was made during a jirga, recently held in Landi Kotal.
More then 100 tribesmen of Zakhakhel accompanied them during the press conference.
Tribal leaders said that the jirga had also decided to impose heavy fines on violators and punishments could include razing to ground their residences.
