HYDERABAD, Sept 15: A large number of traders, belonging to the Anjuman-i-Tajran and the Organization of Small Traders, Hyderabad, observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Monday.
They were protesting against what they called black income tax laws, compulsory registration under the GST and issuance of notices to traders.
Talking to journalists, Saleem Hussain Vohra, Khalid Jafri, Ashfaq Lodhi, Fayaz Awan and other traders said they would continue their protest till the documentation clause of the Income Tax Act was withdrawn and the compulsory registration under the GST was done away with.
They said the income tax department had created harassment among traders by issuing them with notices.
They said the compulsory clause of documentation would increase corruption.
KHAIRPUR: Hundreds of small traders took out a procession against the universal tax scheme here on Monday.
The protesters after marching through the main thoroughfares gathered outside the local press club.
Talking to journalists, the traders demanded that the tax scheme should be withdrawn.
Earlier, they staged a sit-in on the National Highway.
DADU: Over 200 small traders held a demonstration outside the press club here on Monday to protest against the new tax laws.
They were led by Dadu Chamber of Commerce president Ghulam Shah Malkani, Mohammad Hashim Qambrani, Ayaz Shaikh, Gul Mohammad Joyo and Mukhtiar Joyo.
They said they would continue their struggle till anti-traders laws were withdrawn.
LARKANA: Leaders of the Federation of Trade Associations, Larkana, observed a token hunger strike at the Jinnahbagh here on Monday against the recently-introduced income tax laws.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of the association, Akbar Ali Shaikh, said the new system would cast negative impact on trade activities in the country.
The traders announced to resort to shutter-down strikes if the laws were not withdrawn.
He assured that now no one would embezzle the funds for medicine and required medicines would be provided to the patients.
SUKKUR: Over 100 traders of Sukkur observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Monday to protest against the imposition of the Universal Self-assessment Scheme of income tax.
Speaking on the occasion, Haji Muhammad Haroon Memon, co-chairman, All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industry, said that the traders were not against paying tax but there should be an easy way for it.
He appealed the traders to unite against the wrong policies of the government.
