QUETTA, Sept 11: One hundred and seven out of 204 industrial units at Lasbela Industrial Estate have been closed, while only 20 sick units have been rehabilitated so far.
This was informed to Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousuf in a briefing during their visit to Lasbela district. The managing director, Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority, briefed them about the performance of the Authority.
He said that efforts were under way to revitalize the closed mills and resume production so that local economy should be revived. He said that incentives were being provided to the potential investors to establish new units in Lasbela district.
District Nazim Jam Kamal Khan briefed the chief minister about the flood devastations and said that 25 projects suffered serious losses during the hill torrents and monsoon rains.
In one area alone, the losses were estimated at Rs90 million, Mr Kamal claimed. The Nazim sought government help in rehabilitating the flood-affected people in the district.
The governor and chief minister inspected a number of development projects in the district. They also visited the Gadani Ship-breaking Yard and promised that the ship-breaking industry would be rehabilitated and more incentives would be provided to the investors.
INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS: The Balochistan governor has called for initiating massive industrial projects ensuring job opportunities for the local.
Addressing the Nazimeen and councillors, he said that industrialization was the only solution to the problem of mass unemployment. He said the private sector had planned to start a big project to develop shrimp farming in Sonmiani where more than 5000 people would get jobs. He said the development should ensure job opportunities for the local people.
The governor said the government would start production at Lasbela Textile Mills after reviewing the scheme. The Hub industrialists had promised 10 per cent employment for the local, he said.
