ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: Pakistan and France on Saturday agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fight against global terrorism during high-level talks here, officials said.

The agreement came during a meeting between the French delegation, headed by their National Security Director Pierre de Bosquet de Florian, and Pakistan’s Interior Secretary Tasneem Noorani, officials said.

Several areas were identified and proposals were formulated which would be finalized when French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy visits Pakistan later this year, Mr Noorani said after the meeting.

“The extended cooperation would cover French assistance in cybercrime technology, setting up of a forensic science laboratory, training of officials in the field of investigation,” he said.

Mr Noorani said the other areas identified included improving working relations on immigration issues.

“Today’s meeting and the subsequent visit of the French interior minister will substantially improve cooperation between the two countries in the field of security,” Mr Noorani said.

Mr Noorani earlier praised French experts who helped investigate the May 2002 bombing in Karachi which killed 11 French engineers.—AFP
