KARACHI, Sept 6: Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that he would be consulting with leaders of the National Alliance, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and PML-F president Pir Pagara to find out how to improve the conditions in Sindh.

Chaudhry Shujaat was speaking at a party dinner arranged by Capt (retd) Haleem Siddiqui on Saturday to introduce Mr Nisar Memon, convenor of the PML-Q Sindh chapter’s organising committee, to the members of the party’s Sindh council.

Stressing the need for provincial harmony, he said repeating the past mistakes would only aggravate matters.

He recalled that President Gen Pervez Musharraf during his recent visit to Sindh had spoken about how to solve the pressing problems. His views should be taken forward, he said.

Without referring to the Kalabagh dam and Thal canal issues, he said the water problem was emerging in the country and should be solved in a harmonious manner. Its political exploitation would not serve any purpose, he added.

Abusing Punjabis and accusing them of taking away everything “would not take us anywhere.” This thinking had to be changed, Mr Shujaat said.

He said he had taken a step forward by suggesting the name of Mr Jamali as prime minister. “Who would not like to become a prime minister and travel with protocol, but someone had to take the initiative,” he remarked.

He said he had suggested to the president that the NAB system of accountability be based on judicial structure and not be individualistic as was the case at present. No one should stay abroad for fear of retribution.

He said Nawaz Sharif had gone abroad with his sweet will while Benazir Bhutto was staying out of the country of her own accord. She was in Dubai and could return if she so liked.
