DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 5: Agriculture experts have asked the NWFP government to impose ban on cultivation of virus affected Indian sugarcane varieties otherwise the sugar mills would not get the required production in coming crushing season.

The agriculture experts in a seminar organized by Chashma Sugar Mills, held here on Thursday urged upon the NWFP government to impose ban on Indian sugarcane variety of CO-1148 (Fakhre Hind), COJ-84, MT70/611 and Try-Ton as these varieties were virus affected.

The Sindh government had already placed a ban on the cultivation of these Indian varieties in the province they told the participants and growers from Mahra, Dyal, Shorkot, Hisaam, Gomal and Muqeem Shah villages.

Speakers stressed upon the sugarcane growers to grow new varieties to get maximum per acre yield. General manager of CSM, Maqsood Anwar Quershi, presided over the seminar.

The sugar mills management, on the occasion, made it clear that they would not take virus affected sugarcane production from growers for coming season.

THREE KILLED: Three people were killed and 13 injured when a passenger coach rammed into a tree on Dera-Chashma road on Friday.

The bus (9223) was on its way to D I Khan from Paharpur when it skidded off the road due to rain and hit a tree. Two persons died on the spot whereas another succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The injured were rushed to the DHQ Teaching hospital where six of them were stated to be in a critical condition.

Those who died were identified as Sona Khan son Mohammad Ramzan, resident of village Bagwani Shumali, Mohammad Hussain son of Bashir, resident of Kachi Kathgarh and Muhammad Bilal son of Hashim, resident of Paharpur.
