KARACHI, Sept 4: The district and sessions judge, East, Ali Sain Dino Metlo, ordered on Thursday the jail authorities to make arrangements for the treatment of Asif Ali Zardari, interned husband of former Premier Benazir Bhutto, at a private hospital.

The judge, who is conducting the trial of Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case against Mr Zaradri and others, passed order to this effect on an application by the defence counsel, Shahadat Awan.

Special public prosecutor Mohammad Ilyas Khan did not raise any objection to the defence counsel’s application, which was also supported by a recommendation letter by a senior dermatologist.

The defence counsel submitted that his client, presently lodged at the Clifton campus of Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, was advised to undergo Pulse Dye Laser therapy for the treatment of telangiectasia and keloidal scar on his face.

Mr Awan also attached a letter of Dr. Zarnaz Wahid, head of dermatology department at Dow medical College and Civil Hospital, and submitted that the dermatologist had referred Mr Zardari to Mehran Hospital as the laser therapy was not available in the public hospitals.

“In such circumstances, the superintendent of Central Prison, Karachi, is directed to make proper arrangement for the treatment of the accused at Mehran Hospital at his own expenses”, the judge ordered.

ACQUITTED: The additional district and sessions judge, West, Sikandar Lashari, acquitted three activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a case, pertaining to attack on the house of a rival activist and the police.

Nadeem Commando, Khalil Ahmed and Nihal Siddiqui were booked on Dec 26, 1995, by the Orangi police for attacking the house of Sabir Ali, an activist of Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi).

According to prosecution, the accused also opened fire on the police party who reached the scene.

The judge exonerated the three Muttahida workers from all charges for want of incriminating evidence against them.
