KARACHI, Aug 29: Textile bodies have shown some reservation over the Universal Self Assessment Scheme (USAS) and believe that without allowing some immunity it would not be effective.
In a meeting with the Commissioner Income Tax, Special Zone, Karachi, Anisul Hasnain Musavi, the representatives of textile bodies pointed out that selection of 10 per cent from USAS for total audit was a sort of a ‘naked sword’ which was creating a lot of fear and apprehension among the taxpayers.
The participants suggested that in order to avoid direct contact between tax collectors and taxpayers it would be better if some increase in tax over the paid amount of previous year was made effective.
They pointed out that present condition of USAS for selection of 10 per cent cases for total audit would result in lesser revenue collection.
Speaking on the occasion the commissioner income tax Anisul Hasnain Musavi stressed the need of building confidence between tax collector and taxpayer to generate more revenue.
He also assured that senior officers of the special zone would be available for guidance and assistance to taxpayers. He also asked the textile representatives to explain the salient features of the USAS to their respective members and come back with any suggestions.
The textile sector was represented by Mushtaq Ahmed Vohra, Khalid Amin, Lakhani, Gulzar Sidiq, Younus Nawab.
