Karachi Port operations

KARACHI, Aug 29: The activity at the Karachi port is expected to pick up further as eight ships carrying containers, general cargo and rock phosphate are due to arrive on Saturday.

According to KPT sources, cargo handling activity at the wharves was maintained on the higher side where a total tonnage of 0.101m tons was handled. The export tonnage rose to 21,497 tons including 1,495 tons of sugar and import cargo totalled 78,954 tons mainly crude oil and high speed diesel.

Berthing activity at the wharves was, however, light as only one ship, Shirvan to unload crude oil was berthed after the departure of Hyundai Future, Diana-C, Pacific Skipper, L.M.Z. Christina and Bow Dejin.

Four others including Orient Stride, Shirvan, Oriental Bright and Wan Hai-305 are due to sail out on Saturday after loading export cargoes.

The following ships including those whose arrivals were delayed are due on Saturday: Chemstar Eagle, with chemicals, Igloo Star, with meg, Mar Challenger, Kota Tegap, Lamphun Navee, Iwato, with containers, Aristo Telis, with rock phosphate and Chitral, with general cargo.

Port Qasim

KARACHI, Aug 29: Maersk Avon and Igloo Star carrying containers and chemicals were accommodated berths at QICT and Multipurpose Terminal during the last 24 hours, said PQA press release on Friday.

Four ships, Austria, Maersk Avon, Igloo Star and Eburna were busy in loading/offloading containers, chemicals and edible oil.

A cargo volume of 25,493 tons comprising 9,139 tons of import cargo and 16,354 tons of export tonnage was handled.

Sailing was also active as two ships, Rosa-M and Eburna sailed out, while Maersk Avon and Austria were due to depart.

Two ships, Mandarin Bright and Contila Spezia Star were expected to take berths at Multipurpose Terminal and QICT.
