Councillors threaten to quit

HARIPUR, Aug 28: As many as 35 members of the Tehsil Council, Haripur, have threatened to resign in protest against the recent spate of no-trust motions against Nazims and their deputies in different union councils of the district.

About 30 councillors attended a meeting held here on Wednesday and criticized the no-confidence motion tabled against Union Nazims and Naib Nazims and said such tactics were aimed at flopping the local government system.

They observed that the system, which offered relief to the people at the grass-roots level, had obviously perturbed the privileged class and the conventional political forces. They also criticized the NRB for succumbing to pressure of bureaucracy.
