Participants of a meeting that reviewed the pace of the project’s construction work were informed here on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Nazim, Karachi City, Naimatullah Khan.

They were informed that the local residents were largely supportive of the ongoing work, adding that the fast pace of the work made it possible for the agencies concerned to erase the unauthorised construction without any resistance.

Evacuation of the unauthorized constructions, the meeting was informed, reflected the goodwill of the people towards the administration.

The meeting was attended, among others, by the Director, Lyari Expressway Project, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, DIG (Operations), Tariq Jamil, as well as officers associated with Rangers, the National Highway Authority and the provincial Revenue Department.

It was generally agreed upon that the project, which was in the larger public interest, should be completed within the stipulated time and that the removal of bottlenecks was the responsibility of the city administration.

It was also acknowledged that the pace of rehabilitation of affectees should also be expedited and that alternate residence facilities should be provided without unnecessary delay.—APP
