KARACHI: Anti-polio workshop today

Published August 28, 2003

KARACHI, Aug 27: In order to create awareness among lady councillors regarding polio, the city government will hold a workshop at Civic Centre Hall on Thursday (today).

The workshop is a part of the awareness campaign, which has been launched after the assurance given in this regard by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan to WHO and UNICEF experts about three months back.

The experts had asked the elected representatives to evolve better coordination with the concerned government and non- government agencies, working for the cause by sensitizing people about the importance of immunization.

Medical officers associated with the WHO programme on polio eradication had identified absence of local teams, proper transportation and effective monitoring, as major factors hampering the polio eradication programme in Sindh.—PPI
