Vajpayee due in Valley today

SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Indian troops tightened security on Tuesday in restive Kashmir for a three-day visit by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in the wake of car bombings in Bombay that killed 52 people.

Vajpayee and his deputy Lal Krishna Advani were expected to arrive on Wednesday for a meeting of top political leaders and security officials of all of India’s 28 states, in the first time such a conference has been held in Kashmir. The premier’s visit will be met with a strike called by separatists.—AFP
