KARACHI: Govt colleges’ students bag top slots in pre-engineering

KARACHI, Aug 26: The top three positions in the HSC Pre-Engineering, annual examinations-2003, conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, were secured by three students of government colleges.

The students fought neck and neck as a gap of only five marks was recorded between the first and third position holders. The number of A-1 graders declined to 447 from 507 of the last year.

According to BIE’s result gazette, as many as 19,866 candidates, belonging to 132 male and female colleges and higher secondary schools, appeared in the examinations, out of which 8,971, including 2,885 females, were declared pass. The percentage of successful candidates remained 45.37.

A total of 23 male and female institutions failed to see any of their candidate as successful. There were four female colleges, including the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Government Girls School, Mehmoodabad, Crescent Bahria Higher Secondary School and Alnoor Degree College of Computer Science, which achieved 100 per cent success.

A student of the St Joseph’s Government College, Moniza Naseem, d/o of Mohammad Naseem Siddiqui, clinched first position by securing 982 marks out of 1100. Two students of the Government Adamjee Science College, Ahmad Minhas s/o Mohammad Anwar Minhas, and Zohaib Ali Khan, s/o Shaukat Ali Khan, bagged second and third positions, respectively.

The pass percentage of female students remained 50.10, while in the case of male students it was 43.43 per cent. Out of 14,094 male students taking examinations, 6,086 cleared it, while a total of 2,885 female students of 5,772 were declared pass.

Results of 95 candidates were withheld, either for want of correct information or for resorting to unfair means. Scrutiny of answer books can be done on payment of fee within 40 days of the declaration of the results.

The breakdown of candidates having passed the examinations is: Male; A-1 grade, 248 (1.77%), A grade, 963 (6.87%), B-1,525 (10.88%), C-1,890 (13.49%), D-1,397 (9.97%) and E-35(0.25%).

Female; A-1 grade, 199 (3.46%), A, 604 (10.49%), B-872 (15.14%), C-884 (15.35%), D-296 (5.15%) and E- 1 (0.02%).

According to a BIE notification, a maximum of students, 951 males students, were sent up for examinations by the Federal Government Urdu Science College, whose over all pass percentage remained 21.03, followed by Government Shipowner’s College and Government Jinnah College, which sent 787 and 748 candidates, respectively, and achieved a pass percentage of 23 and 29.41, respectively.

Among girls colleges, the Khursheed Government Girls College sent up a maximum of 396 students for examinations, out of which 147 were declared pass, as such its pass percentage remained 37.12.
