Power supply to 100 villages cut

DADU, Aug 25: Power supply to 100 villages of the district was disconnected on Monday for non-payment of the Hesco bills.

Later, at least 50 protesters were booked by the Rukkan police for setting ablaze a Hesco complaint cell in Sita Road town following disconnection of the power supply to 50 villages of the area.

A team of Hesco, Khairpur Nathan Shah sub-division, led by SDO Aftab Ahmed Jokhio, on Sunday disconnected the power supply to 50 villages, including the Khamiso Machhi village, Laloo Solangi village, Masoo village, Kandi village, Khat village and Sita village, due to defaulting on payment of bills.

Following disconnection of the power supply, a large number of villagers held a demonstration outside the Hesco complaint cell on Sita Road town and demanded the line superintendent, Haji Khan Rahoojo, to restore the supply to their villages.

When he told them that he could not do so, the protesters started beating him up.

They then broke the furniture of the complaint cell and set it on fire.

Later, the line superintendent registered an FIR at the Rukkan police station under section 147, 149, 427, 435, 453 and 506/2 PPC against 50 protesters.

The leader of the protesters, Mehboob Kirir, and 49 others were nominated in the FIR.

Meanwhile, the power supply to at least 50 villages in Mehar Taluka were disconnected due to non-payment of bills .

These villages included Bali Shah, Kashoo Chandio, Mian Jo Goth, Dawood Dero, Peroz Shah, Aghamani, Nari, Mureed Lakhair, Hoti Narejo, New Goth, Sobho Magsi, Masoo Saher and Mehrab Lakhair.
