ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: A total amount of Rs209.9 million was allocated for the maintenance of Parliament House by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from 1997 to 2003, out of which Rs155.8 million was spent, the National Assembly was told here on Monday.

Interior minister Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, while replying to a question asked by Qazi Abdul Quddus Rajar, informed the House that a special allocation of Rs75 million was made in 2002-03 in addition to a Rs25.2 million allocation during the same period.

He said out of Rs75 million special allocation, Rs3.59 million was spent on white wash of the Parliament House; Rs9.7 million, replacement of carpet/curtains; Rs3.46 million, furniture; Rs30.3 million, renovation/improvement of air conditioning in both the National Assembly/Senate halls, maintenance of 13 lifts, SIS/AVC systems in the National Assembly as well as the Senate halls/committee rooms, installations of telephone exchanges and electrical mechanical civil works.

Similarly, out of the Rs25.2 million allocation, Rs25 million was spent on paying electricity charges (Rs16.4 million), maintenance of lifts, air conditioning, white wash, replacement of carpets, furniture and other engineering and maintenance works.

In 2001-02, the total allocation was Rs18.4 million, out of which Rs17.8 million was spent on electricity charges (Rs15.4 million), lifts, AC system, white wash, replacement of carpets, furniture and other engineering and maintenance/civil works.

In 1999-2000, the total allocation was Rs30.8 million, out of which Rs27 million was spent on electricity charges (Rs23 million) and other civil and engineering works.

Likewise, in 1998-99, Rs14.3 million was allocated, out of which Rs14.179 million was spent on electricity charges (Rs6.958 million) and other civil/engineering works.

In 1997-98, the total allocations was Rs8.39 million, while Rs7.85 million was spent on electricity charges (Rs5.5 million) and other electricity/civil works.
