KARACHI: Inquiry ordered against jail authorities

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 25: The provincial government has ordered an inquiry against the officials, who allowed a private TV channel to conduct interviews of the condemned prisoners inside the Central Prison.

Official sources told Dawn that the government had sought a detailed report from the inspector general of prisons, Sindh, for further action. They said that the government took a serious notice of the matter as the permission of video making inside the prison was a security risk.

In a letter to IG Prisons, Sindh, Brig Nisar Mehar, the home department said that an interview of a condemned prisoner was telecast by ARY digital. However, the record showed that the home department had not issued any permission for interview of condemned prisoners.

It may be pointed out that the government placed Jail Superintendent Rashid Saeed under suspension last week. However, it could not be ascertained officially if his suspension was linked with the interview of the condemned prisoner inside the prison.
