PESHAWAR, Aug 24: The Contract Lecturers Association of the NWFP has urged the provincial government to regularize those teachers who were appointed by the public service commission( PSC).

In a press release issued here on Sunday, association President Ishaq Wardiq said there were some 400 contract lecturers in the province who were selected by the commission and demanded that they should be regularized as in the past, the successive provincial governments had regularized various ad hoc lecturers.

The teachers body in an open letter to the MPAs demanded that their jobs should be awarded a permanent status on priority.

The public service commission was established to select people on merit for the government institutions on permanent basis. Thus, the appointment of lecturers on contract by the commission was a violation of the rules and regulations of the NWFP Public Service Commission, the president said.

The association has also cited a few examples in the letter where the previous governments had regularized the jobs of some contract employees. Wapda had regularized the jobs of those employees appointed on a six-months contract.

The PHC had also given permanent status to the civil judges and lecturers who were selected by the commission.

The lecturers association asked the provincial government to abolish the harsh policy.

Meanwhile, the Sarhad College Teachers Association has also asked the provincial government to regularize the contract teachers in all the colleges of the NWFP.
