KARACHI, Aug 23: According to the Met office, a strong monsoon weather system, which presently lies over Central India, is likely to move to Sindh during the next 36 hours, and may cause widespread rains in the province, with some heavy falls in its southern parts.
The office asked the concerned authorities to keep a close liaison with local Met authorities at telephone numbers, (021) 45791322, 45791302 & 45791300 and web address: pakmet.com, said a Met handout, issued here on Saturday at 5pm.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi asked the departments concerned to be prepared to combat the affects of monsoon, since the rainfall was expected in the next 24 hours.
Referring to his discussion with the director general, Met office, the CS pointed out that the rainfall might occur in the coastal areas, districts of Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad and upper Sindh, besides Karachi.
The CS said that DIG Traffic, Karachi, should specially ensure that traffic jams should not create adverse situation.
Dr Kazi told the secretaries of relevant departments and all the DCOs in Sindh to ensure the effective relief and rescue activities in the areas likely to be affected by rains.
He said told all government departments to approach him if any bottle neck hindered their work.—PPI
