ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) president Makhdoom Amin Fahim and MNA Syed Khurshid Shah have demanded the resignation of Raza Hiraj and Dr Sher Afgan for bringing the parliament into disrepute.

The minister of state for parliamentary affairs, Raza Hiraj, on Friday, had abused MNA Naheed Khan, while Sher Afgan flaunted an obscene gesture during the National Assembly session.

In a joint statement, Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Syed Khurshid Shah said it was unfortunate that the regime had now resorted to such low tactics that even its senior members had forgotten the norms and parliamentary ethics.

They asked both these MNAs to immediately resign from the parliament and if they wanted to sit in the house, they should go back to their constituency for re-elections. The parliament cannot afford the presence of such immoral and ethically devoid individuals, they said.

Meanwhile, MNA Naheed Khan said Benazir Bhutto was a symbol of democracy and a hope to millions of Pakistani people.

No effort of the military junta will ever succeed to make her surrender before the usurpers, she said.

In a statement on Saturday, Ms Khan said if the military junta wanted her to give up supporting Benazir Bhutto, then it should forget this notion because she had devoted her life to her leader who had not only given her an identity but also the entire PPP leadership.

Meanwhile, the PPP leader, Asif Ali Zardari, has condemned the mistreatment of Naheed Khan by a ‘defector’ and asked the government to behave with the women parliamentarians.

“The PPP stands for the supremacy and sovereignty of the parliament and Naheed Khan is in the forefront of this struggle.”
