PBF chief confident of winning more medals

KARACHI, Aug 21: Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) is hopeful of winning more laurels for the country in 12th Commonwealth Boxing Championship starting at Kuala Lumpur from Aug 25 to 31.

President, PBF, Professor Anwer Chowdhry said in Cadet Boxing Championship held at Bucharest last month we were not confident of winning any medal but extraordinary performance by young Nauman Kareem helped us in winning bronze medal.

He expected tough bouts ahead for national boxers and added “there would be around 100 to 125 boxers in the championship and it will not be an easy task for our boys.”

But he is optimistic of winning more medals than one at Kuala Lumpur.

The contingent are to leave on Aug 23 from Karachi.

Following are the pugilist and officials announced for the championship by the federation:

Nauman Kareem (light flyweight); Abid Ali (flyweight); Mohammed Azeem Nazar (bantamweight); Mehrullah (featherweight); Asghar Ali Shah (light welterweight); Ahmed Ali Khan (middleweight); Muzaffar Iqbal (super heavy); Shaukat Ali (heavyweight).—PPI
