TMA auctions off four contracts

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Aug 21: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) on Thursday auctioned off four contracts for a period of ten months for the financial year 2003-2004.

The auction was held at the TMA hall. The General Bus Stand was auctioned off for Rs6.7million; parking contract for Rs3 million; cattle fair contract at Jorian for Rs80,000 and cattle fair at Dhadambar for Rs26,000.

The contracts were supposed to be auctioned in June soon after the passage of the budget 2003-2004 but were delayed due to the ongoing tug-of-war between the TMA officers and the elected representatives.

It is pertinent to mention here that most of the union council members are contractors and from the very beginning they had an eye on these contracts.

Those who have been awarded the contracts are happy and on good terms with the Nazim and the rest of the administration, but those who have failed to win any contract are annoyed and opposing and criticising the administration in the Tehsil Council sessions.

Speaking on the occasion, Tehsil Nazim Raja Hamid Nawaz exhorted the contractors to be honest in their dealings with the public. He assured all those present on the occasion that no one would be discriminated against in the award of contracts.
