KARACHI: City to get less water due to power breakdown

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 21: Water supply to the city from two pumping stations of the KWSB at Dhabeji and Pipri came to a grinding halt on Thursday evening due to disruption in power supply.

A senior KWSB official said that the fresh power breakdowns would result in an extended gap in water supply to the city. Thursday’s one-hour breakdown, coupled with the bursting of rising main earlier at Dhabeji has already caused a total shortfall of 38 million gallons in supply, according to the official.

The power failure took place at about 6pm rendering all the five pumps at Dhabeji out of order and pumping of 15 million gallon could not be effected. Moreover, the breakdown at Pipri station which took place almost at the same time, caused up to three million gallon less pumping.

The official urged the KESC to ensure a smooth power supply to water pumping stations. Otherwise, he warned, the KWSB system would suffer a significant damage that would ultimately deteriorate water supply to the city.

It is learnt that the rising main, which had burst on Tuesday in the wake of power breakdown, had been repaired and would be charged on Friday.
