Faisalabad, Multan triumph

LAHORE, Aug 20: Multan and Faisalabad registered impressive wins in the Inter-region (Under-19) Cricket Tournament at different cities,  according to a message  received  here  on Wednesday.

Multan defeated Quetta by nine wickets at Multan Stadium, Multan. The home side, which had piled up a massive 184-run lead in first  innings, managed to get a target of 17 after bowling  out Quetta in the second knock at exact 200 after  they resumed at 145 for five.

Multan  achieved  the target after losing  opener  Fayyaz-ul- Hassan (14) and registered an outright victory.

Fine  bowling  by off-spinner Ghulam Dastgir who had  made  a match haul of eight for 75 helped Faisalabad crush Lahore by  95 runs at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

Faisalabad which began their second innings  at  165  without loss,  also  having a slim first innings lead of 25  runs,   declared at 261 for seven -— setting a difficult winning target of 287 for  Lahore.

Opener Abdul Manan who resumed at  71, unluckily  failed to complete his century by four runs.  Akhtar Rasool could not add any runs to his overnight score of 74.

Lahore  failed  to face Dastgir’s off-spinners and  the  entire team was bundled out for 191. Dastgir finished with four for 60. He had claimed four for 15 in the first innings.

Summarised scores:

QUETTA (1st innings): 103 all out in 34.1 overs. And 200 for  all out  in  80  overs,  overnight 145 for  five:  (Majeed  Khan  63, Sanaullah  52, Waseem Qutab 25, Badar Ali 30; Aamir Javed  3-51, Shehzad Kashif 3-23).

MULTAN (1st innings): 287 for all in 84.2 overs. And 17 for  one in 2.4 overs.

FAISALABAD (1st innings): 168 for all out in 62.2 overs. And  261 for seven declared, overnight 165 for no loss in 50 overs (Akhtar Rasool  74, Abdul Manan 96, Shahid Muzaffar 31; Jamshed Ahmed  3- 36, Sabtain Raza 2-35).

LAHORE (1st innings): 143 all out in 64 overs. And 191 for all out in  72.1  overs  (Abid  Ali 37, Zulqarnain  33,  Wahab  Riaz  31, Sakhawat  Salamat 30; Mohammad Salman 2-69, Ghulam Dastgir  4-60, Shahid Hussain 2-2).
