KARACHI: Nisar launches initiative to reunite PML-Q

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 20: Convener of the PML-Q organizing committee for Sindh, Senator Nisar A. Memon, said on Wednesday that he would commence consultation with provincial leadership of the party this weekend for making it more potent to serve the people of Sindh.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Memon said that although the committee was required to reorganize the party cadre within three months, his attempt would be to complete the job much earlier by resolving differences.

“I will get everyone closer to each other and bring them on one platform,” he said.

Mr Memon would also visit district headquarters where he would meet his party’s local leaders and seek their views before compiling his report and an action plan and submit to the party chief within a few weeks.

Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain, President of the PML-Q, had dissolved the provincial body following differences between the party’s Sindh chief Ghous Bux Mahar and gen secretary Capt Haleem Siddiqui had become critical owing to which factional fighting had taken very serious turn. Due to a struggle for power, some of the members had sought relief through court.

The infighting had taken an ugly turn when rival factions clashed in their bid to take control of party office in the city.

“My job is to unite them all as a team and work for the people of Sindh in better coordination with the central leadership,” said Mr Memon adding that he would also put in place a party structure that would also strive for better relationship with other coalition partners.

Thanking the central leadership for reposing confidence in him, Senator Nisar Memon said that he would strive for bringing the provincial PML-Q leadership on one platform.

Mr Memon said that along with Deputy Convener Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and other members of the five-member committee, he would meet the party chief Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and some other central leaders to discuss some key issues.

He will also hold consultation with the chief minister Ali Mohammad Mahar.

Nisar Memon emphasized the need for strengthening political institutions like the parliament. He said that democracy could be strengthened only when political institutions were strengthened.
