KARACHI: Removal of encroachment planned

KARACHI, Aug 20: The city government has planned removal of encroachments from around the Cantonment railway station and asked its Transport and Communication Department to prepare a report on the situation as well as problems being faced by people due to the encroachments.

According to a city government official, the move has been prompted by complaints from the residents of the area.

Encroachers, particularly operators of the inter-cities bus services around the station have been a major cause of frequent traffic mess, besides noise and air pollution. The complainants are of the view that the encroachments had created numerous problems.

They say that the relevant authorities had repeatedly assured the area people that the encroachments, including the bus termini, would be shifted to the outskirts of the city but no practical measures had been taken so far.—PPI
