Mansoor keeps hopes alive
PESHAWAR, Aug 19: Third seed Mansoor Zaman was Pakistan’s only survivor left for when he advanced into the semifinals of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) International squash championship being played at PAF Squash Complex on Tuesday.
Lefty Mansoor, son of former World Champion Qamar Zaman, defeated Omar El Borolossy of Egypt 15-11,10-15,15-13, 15-12 in a match that lasted 47 minutes.
Mansoor took the first game 15-11 but lost the second 10-15. He however came back strongly and won the next two games for a well-merited victory.
Azlan Iskander of Malaysia defeated Pakistan No. 3 Farrukh Zaman 15-7, 15-13, 9-15, 12-15, 15-13, who earlier had toppled top seed Amr Shabana of Egypt in the first round. Azlan took 88 minutes before ending Farrukh’s run in the competition.
It was a bad day for Egyptians as fourth seed Renan Lavigne of France downed fifth seed Muhammad Abbas in four games 15-11, 15-12, 11-15 15-4 in 46 minutes while second seed Gregory Gaultier of France booked the last semifinal berth beating eight seed rival John Wil-liams of Australia also in fourth games 15-13, 15-10, 9-15, 15-10.
Today’s semifinals: Muhammad Azlan v Mansoor Zaman; Renan Lavigne Gregory Gaultier.
The final will be played on Aug 21 at 4.30 p.m.—APP
