KARACHI: Bail plea dismissed


KARACHI, Aug 18: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC), comprising Justice Wahid Bux Brohi and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery, on Monday dismissed a bail plea filed by Sohail Noor, an alleged activist of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen-al Almi.

Advocate Khawja Naveed Ahmed, appearing for the applicant, submitted that the accused was arrested by the police after the recovery of explosives in a huge quantity from a house in Kathiawar Housing Society on Sept 14, 2002.

The accused was booked under 3/4 Explosive Act and had been challaned before a Special Court for Suppression of Terrorist Activities , the counsel submitted adding that since his arrest the case had not been proceeded with. He sought bail on statutory ground.

The bench after hearing the counsel for applicant dismissed the bail application directing the trial court to decide the case in next three months.

Another bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro, quashed proceedings against accused Abida Sadiq, Aetabar Begum, Bashir and Ghulam Haider, who were booked by the Quaidabad police on a complaint by a step-sister of Abida Sadiq.

The FIR accused them of extending threats to the complainant. Khawja Naveed advocate represented the accused.

REMANDED: Justice Shabbir Ahmed of the High Court of Sindh and the administrative judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts for Karachi division on Monday remanded five accused in the kidnapping for ransom case to police custody till Aug 23. — APP
