KARACHI, Aug 18: Justice Mohammad Mujeebullah Siddiqui of the Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to the SHO of Landhi police station, the DSP of Korangi and the TPO of Landhi Town for Sept 8 on a contempt petition filed by the Mohajir Qaumi Movement against the police officials for violating the court’s order regarding Baitul Hamza, headquarters of the MQM-H demolished by the Karachi Building Control Authority.
Plaintiff Abid Ali Jaffery, a leader the MQM-H, through Advocate Sohail Hameed, stated that on May 29 the SHC restrained the defendants from taking any coercive action in respect of the property known as Baitul Hamza till the next date of hearing.
He submitted that the MQM-H arranged a Mehfil-i-Milad for women on Aug 2 on the property followed by a foundation-stone laying ceremony to rebuild it.
He stated that during the Milad the police officers, named as contemnors, came at the property with a police force and disrupted the Milad.
It was submitted that the police in breach of the court’s order adopted coercive attitude, intervened and entered on the property and removed the foundation stone.
The court was prayed to punish the alleged contemnors under Article 204 (2) (a) of the Constitution.
The court, after hearing the counsel for the plaintiff, issued contempt of court notices to the alleged contemnor. — PPI/APP
