BADIN, Aug 18: Sindh People’s Party Parliamentarians president Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has said the relief provided by the government is not sufficient and demanded Rs10 billion for the rain-hit district.
Speaking at a gathering at the Kazia Wah Chowk while he, along with other party leaders, was on his way to Khoski and Kadhan on Sunday, he criticized the Sindh government for failing to discharge its duties regarding welfare of the affected people.
Mr Khuhro, MNAs Syed Khurshid Shah and Dr Fehmida Mirza, MPA Dr Sikandar Mandhro and other PPP leaders visited rain-hit areas of the district.
The Sindh PPP chief claimed that his party had begun relief work in affected areas.
He blamed the Badin district relief committee chairman for distributing relief goods only among his supporters.
The Anti-Greater Thal Canal Action Committee convener said President Gen Pervez Musharraf had insulted the people of Sindh by asking them to accept construction of the Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam.
Meanwhile, the relief operation is going on in the district and nine more trucks loaded with relief goods were dispatched for distribution among the affected people through area Nazims.
District relief committee chairman MPA Syed Ali Bux Shah praised Nazims participating in distribution of goods.
Around 100 women surrounded the MPA outside the DCO office and demanded an investigation against Nazims who had misappropriated ration.
Mr Shah assured them of an inquiry into the matter through army personnel.
It was learnt that most of the Nazims and their deputies did not provide lists of rain victims who received ration.
