Perfect day for Six Perfections

DEAUVILLE (France), Aug 17: Six Perfections silenced her doubters on Sunday by winning the Prix Jacques le Marois, one of Europe’s top mile races.

After three frustrating second places for the Pascal Bary filly, she was delivered right on cue with around 300 metres to go by jockey Thierry Thulliez.

It proved quite a result for Bary and the Niarchos family (also the race sponsors), as they engineered a famous one-two courtesy of Domedriver’s cracking effort in second.

Six Perfections was hassled all the way to the line by her Breeders’ Cup Mile winning stablemate and there was only a short neck in it at the line.

“That was just what the doctor ordered,” said Bary. “The filly had a lovely action, and just about no luck in the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas.”

Thulliez, sharply criticised for his riding of Six Perfections in the 1,000 Guineas, was a relieved man.

“I am very emotional,” he said. “These were two champions slugging it out.”

The unfancied Telegnosis, owned by the Japanese Shadai Race Horse Company, finished third.— Reuters
