THATTA, Aug 17: The federal minister for industries and production, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, has assured that after privatization of the Thatta Sugar Mill its employees would not be retrenched.

He was speaking on the occasion of handing over a consignment of relief goods at the Circuit House Makli on Sunday.

Replying to another question as to why the Thatta Cement Factory was being privatized despite making huge profits, Mr Jatoi said that it was due to the privatization policy of the government.

About the denial of employment to local people in the Deewan Group of Industries, the minister said that he had convened a meeting with Thatta legislators next week to sort out the matter.

He said that the issue of reviving sick units in Thatta district would also be discussed in the meeting. He said that the investment climate in the country was changing and investors from within and outside Pakistan were showing interest in trade activities.

Replying to a question regarding decrease in car prices, the federal minister said that multinational manufacturing companies of these vehicles were beyond the control of his ministry, and added that, however, due to the efforts of his ministry, Hyundai Company had already decreased upto Rs18,000 per car and car production had also improved considerably.
