Close triangular contest likely in Kamoki

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Aug 17: The PML-Q, PML-J (C) and PPP nominated their aspirants for the slot of Kamoki tehsil nazim and started their election campaign on Sunday.

Provincial Transport Minister Chaudhry Shamshad Ahmad Khan nominated his brother Chaudhry Sajjad Ahmad Khan, claiming that the Punjab chief minister had also given an approval. But prime minister’s adviser Rana Nazir Ahmad Khan refused to support the MPA’s brother and instead pitched against him another candidate, Rana Asif Ahmad Khan Dargahpuri.

According to the PM’s adviser, his candidate had the backing of PML (C) chief Chaudhry Hamid Nasir Chattha, District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha, Punjab chief minister’s advisor Dr Sohail Zafar Cheema and former MPAs Chaudhry Zafarullah Cheema and Syed Khalidur Rehman Chishti.

It may be mentioned that the provincial transport minister had been elected the Kamoki tehsil nazim, but he vacated his seat to contest an election for the MPA seat.

Meanwhile, the PPP nominated Ehsanullah Virk while PML-N and other opposition parties were supporting him.

It is pertinent to mention that all the three contesting candidates belong to the Jat biradari. The political pundits predict a close triangular contest.

CAUGHT: Over 50 electricity thieves, including industrialists, landlords, engineers, lawyers and grocers, were caught red-handed on Saturday night by a joint raiding team of the Gepco and the army.

A Gepco spokesman said the team raided factories, shops and bungalows at night and caught red-handed several people while stealing electricity direct from the main supply lines.

He pointed out that heavy detection bills were issued to power thieves besides registering cases against them.
