KARACHI: Fresh wave of killings, sabotage condemned

KARACHI, Aug 17: Leaders of various organizations have condemned the fresh wave of killings and terrorism in the city and elsewhere in the province following yet another killing, of Dr Ibne Hasan, and the bombblasts in Nawabshah and Thatta that caused damage to rail tracks a couple of days back.
Observing that the government has miserably failed in ensuring protection to the life and property of citizens, they called upon the authorities to take practical steps with regard to law and order before it was too late.
The office-bearers of the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, Ahmar Hamid, Qaisar Jamal, Dr Abdul Malik and Dr Saqib Ansari, said in a statement on Sunday that the killing of Dr Ibne Hasan proved that the government had failed to provide protection to doctors community.
They described the murder as ‘an attempt to create fear and harassment’ in the doctors fraternity. They demanded arrest of the killers and urged the government to ensure prevention of such incidents in future.
President of Islami Tehreek, Sindh, Allama Hasan Turabi has expressed his astonishment over the disappearance of those responsible for the mass killing of Shia worshippers in Quetta and pointed out that those wanted by the US were easily being grabbed and extradited.
Presiding over an ITS meeting, Allama Turabi said that instead of arresting the criminals and terrorists, the authorities were continuing to hold out assurances of using an iron hand against them.
The office-bearers of the ITS visited the scene of incident where Dr Ibne Hasan was shot dead. They offered their condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to the people to exercise restraint. The Sindh chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, in his statement on Sunday said that Dr Ibne Hasan was killed at a time when people were still stunned and shocked by the gruesome killing of five brothers in the city. He termed the series of killings and terrorist attacks ‘a conspiracy’ to destroy peace and harmony in the city and pit brother against brother. He expressed his confidence that by remaining above the ethnic, regional and sectarian prejudices, the people would succeed in foiling the conspiracy. He appealed to the masses to forge unity in their file and ranks and keep a vigilant eye on mischief makers.
Begum Tala’at Munir Fateh, city chief of the PML-F Women Wing, expressed her fear that the fresh wave of terrorism indicated a beginning.
If prompt and effective measures are not taken, the consequences would be perilous, she warned.
