LAHORE, Aug 16: Black Nigeria, a three-year-old dark-bay colt, who is in good form, should oblige his connections by winning the feature event during the Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Sunday.
He is contesting in the Vehari Plate, a class VII division I handicap race to be run over the sprinting distance of 900 metres which will be the fifth and last race of the day.
The feature event has a field of nine runners barring last- minute withdrawals. Besides Black Nigeria, two chestnuts, Prince Of Peace and Puma Star are the other chance contenders.
A colt from Stealth out-of-Dancing Queen, Black Nigeria was narrowly beaten by Legality on July 27 and did not run since then. On that running there seems bright chances of his to make amends this time.
The supporting and fourth event, the Vehari Plate class VII division II has a dozen runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Of them four attract attention. They are Morning Noor, Mohni Road, Las Pal Mas and Senna. They should decide about the winners.
Gun Salute, Zuhair Choice and Sherdil are the chance ones in the third race. They should follow in the same order.
Madam Lorina, Extra Power and Sky Hawk seems good in the second event. The way Madam Lorina had won the race on Sunday last, she should have no difficulty in making it two in-a-row.
The opener has a dozen runners. This seems to be an open affair. On recent showings Burrat Again, Wall Street, Fine Gold are the form contestants to pick up the spoils.
Cranbrook Boy has been treated very lightly in the handicap and placed at seven stones four pounds.
He may prove a dark horse. All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 900 metres.
The first race will be held at 3pm.
