Two prisoners die in Sahiwal jail

SAHIWAL, Aug 16: Two under-trial prisoners of the central jail died under mysterious circumstances here early on Saturday morning.

The district and sessions judge deputed judicial magistrate Afzal Ahmad Butt to conduct an inquiry.

Muhammad Sadiq was brought to Sahiwal central jail from Deepalpur. On Friday night, he had an asthmatic fit. He was reportedly shifted to jail hospital where he died on Saturday morning.

Sakhi Muhammad, another under-trial prisoner, was taken by Pakpattan police to produce him before court in Pakpattan. As he was returning to Sahiwal, he fell unconscious in the police van. He was admitted to jail hospital where he died.

Bodies of both the deceased prisoners were handed over to their relatives without the postmortem examination.

THREE KILLED: Three people were killed while four others sustained injuries on Saturday in an accident on the GT Road near Harappa Bypass.

Rafiq along with his family members was going to Lahore from Chichawatni by a car (IDP-5596) at high speed. Near Harappa Bypass, the car collided head-on with a bus (LHO-455) after it hit a bicyclist. Consequently, Rafiq’s wife Saleema, son (10) and cyclist Punnun Sher died instantly while Rafiq, his children — Hamza (6), Aqsa (5) and Hafizan (8) suffered serious injuries. The injured were shifted to a local hospital. The bus driver managed to escape from the scene.

Harappa police have registered a case.

RECOVERED: Grain Market police on Saturday recovered a security guard kidnapped from Mian Channu besides arresting the three accused.

Rana Kashif, Rana Tariq and Rana Waheed had kidnapped security guard Muhammad Amin from Mian Channu and collected from his wife Rs50,000 in cash and ornaments as ransom. The arrested accused were said to be the relatives of a local MPA.

Police have registered a case against the arrested accused.
