KOHAT, Aug 16: The opposition in the district council failed to get the required votes of councillors in the last phase of elections to pass their no-confidence motion against the district Nazim on Saturday.

The Nazims and members elected on reserved seats had passed a no-confidence motion in the district council against the district Nazim Malik Asad for which voting was held in the second phase. Only 118 councillors out of more than 570 turned up to vote, allowing Mr Asad to survive the no-confidence move with a huge margin.

It has been alleged that the opposition had the full support of the provincial government as all the MPAs played a key role to pass the no-confidence against the Kohat Nazim who is a spokesman for all the district Nazims of the NWFP.

He is negotiating power sharing between the district Nazims and the provincial government and had refused to accept the transfer powers of the chief minister or the ministers in the districts.
